Coffee Mathematical and Computational Physics Group (MCP)

Professor Holst interacts with a small group of scientists, postdocs, graduate students, and undergraduate students from CCoM which collectively form the Mathematical and Computational Physics Group (MCP). This energetic and creative group of people is supported by NSF, DOE, NIH, and other funding awards for research projects in the general areas of computational mathematics and mathematical physics. This group meets together weekly in a group meeting/journal club that involves members of the group giving lectures on topics in the general areas of computational mathematics and mathematical physics. Graduate students in the group usually pursue their M.S. and/or Ph.D. degrees in Mathematics with a formal Specialization in Computational Science through the Computational Science, Mathematics, and Engineering Program (CSME). CSME is a new interdisciplinary graduate program at UCSD directed by Professor Holst and Professor Julius Kuti in the UCSD Physics Department; most of the CCoM faculty are heavily involved in the CSME program through the CSME Executive and Advisory Committees, and/or by advising graduate students enrolled in the CSME Program.
