Finite elements for the Lichnerowicz equation

Abstract:

The Lichnerowicz equation is a semilinear elliptic equation,which arises as a part of the Einstein constraint system of general relativity.The nonlinearity is not monotone and involves both positive and negativepowers of the unknown. In this talk I will discuss preliminary results onthe well posedness of the Lichnerowicz equation on a bounded domain andaddress some key issues in using finite element methods for solvingthis equation.
